POM 1(Sodium polyoxotungstate) belongs to a group of polyoxotungstates that inhibits CD39, CD39L1, CD39L3 (nucleoside-triphosphate-diphosphohydrolases). POM 1 is a non-specific inhibitor of NTPDase8 (ecto-nucleoside-triphosphate-diphosphohydrolases) and has been observed to inhibit renal protection activated through ischemic preconditioning (IP). This compound displays minor selectivity for NTPDases 1 and 2 over NTPDase 3 (Ki values are 2.58 vs 28.8 μM, respectively). Studies have shown that POM 1 is more potent at blocking ATP breakdown than ARL 67156 in cerebellar slices and can also block central synaptic transmission, which is independent of the NTPDase inhibition. POM 1 is the anhydrous form of sc-253591. POM 1 is an inhibitor of P2Y12.
